Oilers win by two against Sylvan Lucas
The Central Plains High School Oilers varsity football team won a squeaker on the road Oct. 9 to Sylvan Lucas, 28-26.
On the ground, Central Plains ran 44 rushing plays for 218 yards as opposed to just 39 plays for 166 yards for Sylvan Lucas.
In the air, the Oiler passers threw nine passes for 33 yards, while Sylvan Lucas thew the ball six times for 92 yards.
Central Plains had one interception, while Sylvan Lucas had none. Each team, however, had one fumble. The Oilers led in first downs with 14, opposed to just eight for Sylvan.
The Oilers had two penalties for 15 yards, while Sylvan Lucas had seven penalties for 64 yards.
Offensively for the Oilers, Dawson McNeal had 10 carries for 26 yards, Guss Menges had 18 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown, while Michael Laymon had 15 carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Laymon was also four for eight through the air for 33 yards and one touchdown. He also threw an interception.

Defensively, Tyler Holmes led the Oilers with 17 unassisted and seven assisted tackles, followed by Michael Laymon with 12 unassisted tackles and four assisted tackles, and William Laymon with eight unassisted tackles and five assisted tackles. Jacob Oberle had seven unassisted and five assisted tackles, Karter Beck had four unassisted and three assisted tackles, Michael Menges had two unassisted and five assisted tackles, and Dawson McNeal and Matthew Donecker each had one unassisted tackle.
