Ellsworth/Wilson baseball wins big over Beloit while the Lady ‘Cats win over Ellis
Bearcat junior Dayto Davis could do no wrong on the pitcher’s mound Thursday, April 1, as he threw a perfect game in Ellsworth’s 15-0 victory over the Beloit High School baseball team.
Davis surrendered no runs on no hits over four innings, striking out 11 and walking none. Davis struck out the Trojan’s Maddox Waters to end th game.
The ‘Cats collected five runs in the fourth inning. Davis, Jaxon Stefek and Jordan Rodriguez each contributed RBIs.
In all, Ellsworth had nine hits on the day with Rodriguez and Davis each having two to lead the ‘Cats.
It also was a good day in the field for Ellsworth as the team avoided a single error.
Owen Eilert took the loss for Beloit. He allowed one hit and three runs over one-and-one-third innings. He struck out two players.
Ellsworth vs. Ellis
The ‘Cats played Ellis Tuesday, March 30, and their first game of the 2020-21 season was completely different than their second.
The non-conference game at Ellsworth ended with a score of 8-0 in favor of Ellis.
Jaxson Stefek, Dayton Davis, Cade Gwinner, Rolfs and Schulte each collected one hit each to lead the ‘Cats.
In the early game, the ‘Cats fell behind early and couldn’t come back. The Bearcats struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Ellis, giving up eight runs. A single by Braden Schulte in the fourth inning was a positive for the ‘Cats.
Lane Rolfs took the loss for the Bearcats. He went three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out six.
Schulte went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the ‘Cats.
Lady ‘Cats bring down Ellis
The Lady ‘Cats defeated the Ellis Railroaders in two nonconference games March 30 at Ellsworth by scores of 27-7 and 19-16.
Lizzy Hipp and Emma Moore were the pitchers. Hipp threw 221 pitches, allowing seven hits and 16 runs over 8.2 innings. She faced 55 batters and struck out 14. Hipp was credited with the wins for both games.
Moore threw 61 pitches over 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and seven runs. She pitched to 18 batters and struck out two.
