Season ends for Bearcats

The Bearcats traveled to Sterling Tuesday, March 3, to play a substate game against the Sterling Black Bears. The ending was unfortunate for the ‘Cats, who suffered a 39-57 loss.

Luke Sharp, Braden Shulte, and Hayden Rogers started off the first quarter with 2-point baskets each and Avery Haxton made a free throw putting 7 points on the board for the Bearcats. The ‘Cats were down by 10 with a 17-7 score at the end of the quarter.

Shulte and Rogers continued to put points on the board during the second quarter. Six total fouls occurred in the first half. Eight points were put on the score board for the ‘Cats. The score was 33-15 at half in favor of Sterling.

The third quarter didn’t change much for the ‘Cats. Haxton and Rogers each put two points on the board and Trey Anderson stepped in adding four more points. Ellsworth was down by 20 points at the end of the quarter with 43-23 showing on the board.

The ‘Cats kicked up their game during the final quarter making 16 points. Jaxson Stefek added a 3-pointer to the board and Anderson and Rogers each added two points. John Kyler put five points up for the ‘Cats and Haxton added four points. Ellsworth had nine fouls in the second half. The Bearcats lost by 18 points leaving the win to Sterling.

Coach Ryan Webber led the Bearcat boys to a 7-14 season.

Avery Haxton scored 336 points during the 2019-20 season. Haxton also had 35 offensive and 102 defensive rebounds for the season. Haxton also pulled off 25 steals and 15 assists for the ‘Cats.

Braden Shulte made 261 points for the Bearcats. Shulte maintained possession of the ball for the ‘Cats with 25 offensive rebounds, 62 defensive rebounds and 21 steals. Shulte made 51 assists — the most for the team.

Trey Anderson had the most steals for the ‘Cats with 46. Anderson also put 127 total points on the score board for his team. Anderson kept the ball in the Bearcat’s possession with 15 offensive and 40 defensive rebounds.

Hayden Rogers ranked fourth with a total of 123 points. Rogers also had a total of 126 rebounds, 14 steals, and 10 assists.

John Kyler put 74 points on the board for the ‘Cats. He had 24 offensive and 49 defensive rebounds. Kyler pulled off 30 steals and 44 assists.

Luke Sharp kept possession of the ball for his team with 36 defensive rebounds, seven steals, and 16 offensive rebounds. Sharp scored 50 points for the team.

Stefek rebounded the ball 34 total times and had eight steals and 19 assists. Stefek put 21 points on the board for the Bearcats.

Gavain Webber had 15 rebounds, 1 steal, 11 assists and 7 points on the board.

The Bearcats had 404 total defensive rebounds compared to their opponents’ 312. The ‘Cats stole the ball 152 times compared to their competitors 99 total steals. The Bearcats also pulled off 198 assists compared to their opponents 152. During the season. the Bearcat’s scored 999 points just shy of their competitors 1,053.
