Weinhold leads Wilson in win over Cougars
WILSON — Senior Cooper Weinhold scampered for 298 yards on 32 carries and 7 touchdowns to lead the Wilson Dragons Football Team to a 50-46 victory at home Sept. 25 against the Otis-Bison Cougars.
In the first quarter, Wilson scored first when Weinhold ran for 44 yards into the end zone for a touchdown. A two point conversion run by the Dragon’s Camryn Eberhart was no good.
In the second quarter, Weinhold scampered for two more touchdowns, one for two yards and one for 12 yards. After the first touchdown, he was unsuccessful on a two-point conversion run. After the second touchdown, a two point conversion pass from Dragon Memphis Eberhart to Dylan Crawford was also no good to make the halftime score 26-18 in favor of the Cougars.
In the third quarter, Weinhold once again scored two touchdowns — the first on a 9 yard run and the second on a 1 yard run. The Dragons’ two point conversion attempts after both touchdowns were no good.
In the fourth quarter, Eberhardt added to the Dragons tally with a 9 yard run into the end zone. Weinhold then notched up two more touchdowns with a 30 yard run to the end zone and a 1 yard run to the end zone. Once again, in two out of the three cases, the twopoint conversion attempt by Wilson was unsuccessful.
For the game, Wilson had 458 yards of total offense on 60 plays, while Otis-Bison had 312 yards on 46 plays.
Wilson was 7 of 10 for 79 yards in the passing department, with the Cougars passing for 182 yards on 12 of 16 attempts.
Dragon runners ran for 379 total yards on 50 carries. Wilson dominated the Cougars who had just 130 yards on 30 carries.
In the receiving department, the Dragons had 7 completions for 79 yards while the Cougars had 12 completions for 182 yards.
Both teams had one interception. Wilson also dominated the Cougars in time of possession, having the ball 28:57 minutes verses 18:54 for Otis-Bison.
Wilson had 26 first downs for the game, verses 18 for the Cougars.
Next up for Coach Tony Brokes and his Wilson Dragon squad is a 7 p.m. Homecoming game this Friday against Chase.
