Wilson celebrates 60th anniversary of invitational
One team member from Wilson and three from Central Plains carried home gold medals from this past week’s Wilson Invitational at Russell. Dragon senior Kayleigh Hanzlick placed first in the girls’ high jump with a score of 4’10”. For Central Plains, sophomore Hannah Redetzke was first in the girls’ 3200m run with a time of 14:01.14; sophomore Lexi Oeser was first in girls’ javelin throw with a distance of 98’8”; and senior Paige Schoonmaker was first in girls’ 100 yard hurdles with a time of 17.40 and 300m hurdles with a time of 52.19. This was the 60th anniversary of the annual event, which saw Ell-Saline High School win the boys’ and Lakeside winning the girls’ sides of the invitational. For the boys, Central Plains landed 6th with 38 points. Wilson was 9th with 15 points. On the girls’ side, Central Plains captured 4th place with 65.5 points and Wilson took 5th with 41 points.
