Wilson falls at substate

The Wilson High School boys basketball team saw its 2020-21 season come to an end Friday, March 5, with a 48-31 to powerhouse St. John’s-Tipton at Wakefield.
The Blujays led 15-9 after one quarter, 29-15 at halftime and 42-19 after three periods, eventually cruising to the win in the 1A, Division II substate semifinal game.
Cooper Weinhold led the Dragons with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Garrett Thielen also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Dalton Schmitt paced St. John’s-Tipton with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Wilson committed 30 turnovers, while the Blujays only turned the ball over 11 times.
St. John’s-Tipton out-rebounded Wilson 35 to 34 and 11 to 7 on the offensive glass. The Blujays scored 12 points off of those offensive boards, while the Dragons only scored four points off of their offensive rebounds.
The Wilson Dragons, who won their substate spot by defeating Tescott, finish the season with an 8-8 overall record.
