Three employees at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility — Joseph “Dan” Vallier, Shanley Loffer and Tonnette “Toni” Rusch — were named Outstanding Employees of the Second Quarter for Fiscal Year 2020.

Hammel elected to state office
Patrick Hammel, superintendent at the Ellsworth Municipal Golf Course, was elected secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Golf Course Superintendents Association at the group’s annual meeting Dec. 4 in Manhattan.
Bethany graduate on court
Gov. Laura Kelly has appointed Judge Evelyn Z. Wilson to the Kansas Supreme Court. Wilson will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Lee Johnson.
County receives holiday surprise from judge
Ellsworth County has received an early Christmas gift. At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners, Judge Mike Keeley of the 20th Judicial District presented the county with a $74,680 check.

KANOPOLIS — The Kanopolis City Council approved a motion at the Dec. 10 meeting to wait until next November to have the voters decide whether or not to adopt the proposed chicken ordinance.
Wilson gives nod to charter ordinance
WILSON — The transient guest tax was once again on the radar of the Wilson City Council Monday.
The council approved Charter Ordinance 1-2019, which replaced the ordinance passed it passed in July 2019.
The guest tax stays at 3 percent, one percent higher than the state statute.

Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, Dec. 16, were: Wheat, bu. — $4.24, up 43 cents from Dec. 9. Milo, bu. — $3.21, up 12 cents. Soybeans, bu. — $8.12, up 25 cents. Corn, bu. — $3.53, up 12 cents.
