Ellsworth County commissioners briefly discussed reinstating the county wide burn ban Monday during their weekly meeting, but took no action.On March 10, commissioners voted to rescind the burn ban during a special meeting, after a fresh blanket of snow covered the county.

Wilson raises water tap fees

WILSON — Water tap fees were increased at the March 7 meeting of the Wilson City Council.The fees have been $250 for residential customers and $400 for commercial customers.

Kanopolis eyes fire station

KANOPOLIS — The City of Kanopolis took another step forward toward a new fire station March 8, after the Kanopolis City Council approved Resolution 2022-R-03, which authorizes the borrowing of funds from the Kanopolis Firefighters Relief Association.

USD 327 releases separation agreement with Lanning

The Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District will pay former superintendent Josh Lanning a lump sum of $38,000 as part of a separation and release agreement approved at the school board’s March 7 meeting.

Don’t fence me in dispute is resolved

A solution to an unusual case involving Kansas fence law was found at Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners.Jackie Rathbun and Deanna Rathbun own adjoining pastures. Jackie Rathbun wants to build a 6,100-foot fence between the pastures over the objections of Deanna Rathbun.

Wilson Communications Scholarship Application & Guidelines are now available.Two, $500 scholarships per each community that Wilson Communications serves will be awarded to graduating seniors. Those communities are Brookville, Denmark, Ellsworth, Hunter, Lucas, Sylvan Grove, Tipton and Wilson.
