Sometimes, it’s difficult to feel thankful. Here at the I-R, we are still moving through the loss of longtime editor/publisher Linda Mowery-Denning. Some days are easy, others are not.Holidays can be difficult for those who have suffered a loss.

Concerns about county attorney Dear Editor, About a month ago, I delivered a paper copy of my most recent letter to the editor as noted below, to the Ellsworth County Attorney’s Office of Paul J. Kasper, in person.

Once upon a time, the founders of this country dreamed of a land that spread from sea to shining sea. They envisioned prosperous farms and ranches covering the land like a beautiful handmade quilt.

“Oh, you’re replacing Linda” was a comment I would often hear in my first year as editor/publisher of the I-R.No. That was the answer then and it is still the answer today.I knew before I stepped in the door the first day on the job that I could never replace Linda Mowery-Denning.

Remembering LindaDear Editor, Today is all about Linda Mowery-Denning and her amazing life. As I sit pondering what I will say at the reception in her honor, so many things come to mind.Love and prayers go out to Matt and Allie.

At 73 years of age, rural America has been in distress nearly my entire life. For most readers, few can remember true good times other than an occasional year or two. Stringing three good years together has proven to be so rare that I truly don’t recall it happening.

Legislative salary proposalA Legislative Compensation Commission appointed by the Kansas Legislature reported recently that a pay raise for Kansas legislators would be appropriate. Legislators currently receive c. $29,000 a year, depending on how compensation is calculated.
