Mental health services are available to Ellsworth County residents: • Central Plains Mental Health Center, Salina, (800) 794-8281. A therapist from the center, which covers Ellsworth and other central Kansas counties, visits Ellsworth two times a week.

Suicide rates climb across rural Kansas

The number of suicides in northwest Kansas increased by more than half in recent years. Twenty counties in the region saw suicides climb by 57 percent from 2014 through 2018. That jump comes in a part of the state where people already die by suicide at a higher rate than in the rest of Kansas.

Census participation important to region’s representation

In March, mailboxes across the country will bring an opportunity that only comes around once in a decade – the chance to be counted during the U.S. Census. Getting a complete and accurate count of all the people who live in Northwest Kansas on Census Day, April 1, is important for many reasons.
