Kanopolis hears about new cost share program

KANOPOLIS — Jon Halbgewachs of Ellsworth’s Kirkham Michael & Associates presented information to the Kanopolis City Council Feb. 11 on a new cost share program available from the Kansas Department of Transportation. “It is a competitive grant program for transportation related projects,” he said.

Historical society plans annual event

Ellsworth County’s Josh Svaty will be the speaker at Sunday’s 2 p.m. annual meeting of the Ellsworth County Historical Society at the Senior Center.

WILSON — Six-year-old Jonathan Soukup of Wilson helped his parents, Justin and Jocelyn, raise 12 chickens from the time they were chicks in hopes of someday entering them in the Ellsworth County Fair. Unfortunately, those hopes have been dashed.

Kansas Tracks Ex-Convicts Like No Other State

Kansas is unmatched in its tracking of ex-convicts, resulting in more than 21,000 people convicted of sex, drug or violent crimes being registered on a public database. One of them is Marc Schultz, who was convicted of manslaughter for hitting and killing a cyclist while driving drunk in 2010.
