USD 112 approves teacher payment

WILSON — The Central Plains USD 112 board of education went into several executive sessions during a Feb. 10 board meeting at Wilson School.

Correction

A deed published in the Feb. 6 Independent-Reporter was incorrect. It should have read Michael D. Foran conveys and warrants to the Richard A. Farney Living Trust the south half of the southwest quarter of Section 5-14-9 in Ellsworth County, Kan.

Commissioners review road maintenance agreement

During Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners, Paul J. Kasper, county attorney, briefly reviewed a proposed road maintenance agreement with Enel North America for work planned at the Smoky Hills Wind Farm. Enel plans to install new generators and blades in the wind turbines.

Kanopolis continues to recover from 2019 flood

Restoration work continues at Kanopolis Lake after near-record flooding in 2019 reduced attendance at Kanopolis State Park by 25 percent and wrecked roads and other infrastructure. As of this month, only one camp ground, Sand Plum, remained closed. One courtesy dock also had not been replaced.

Flag, rec complex top agenda

Ellsworth officials like the idea of having a red, white and blue American flag painted on the side of the water tower near the city swimming pool. But they’re not sure about the $2,700 it will cost beyond painting Ellsworth in block letters on the tower. The latter was included in tank renovations.

Political forums planned

Kansas Sen. Richard Wilborn, R-McPherson, and Rep. Steven Johnson, R-Assaria, plan to be in Ellsworth County Feb. 22 to update constituents on developments in the Kansas Legislature. The two will start the day with an 8 a.m. session at Grandma’s Soda Shop in Wilson.

Anyone who expected directors of the Ellsworth County Medical Center to make a final decision at their Feb. 7 special meeting on whether to participate in the proposed Ellsworth American Legion community center project came away disappointed.
