Peschka resigns as Wilson mayor

WILSON — An unexpected resignation and several appointments brought change to the Wilson City Council at Monday’s meeting of the governing body.After three-and-a-half years as mayor, Mike Peschka submitted his resignation, effective immediately.

Detention pond options to be explored

At the Aug. 16 meeting of the Krizek Park Advisory Committee, Brian Foster of BG Consultants gave a presentation on what it would cost to fill the detention basin at Krizek Park. That cost would be $708,404.25.

COVID cases, symptoms at ECMC

COVID-19 has once again reared its head in Ellsworth County.At the Aug. 16 meeting of the Ellsworth County Medical Center board of directors, Administrator Jim Kirkbride said the hospital has recently seen a few patients with COVID-like symptoms and also one admission.

Bushton Bash planned for Aug. 26

The Bushton Pride Committee will host the Bushton Bash, an event with something for all ages, Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Bushton Plaza (former middle school).The day’s activities will kick off at 1 p.m.

Ellsworth adopts minimum housing code

There will now be a minimum housing code in Ellsworth.At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth City Council, approval was given adopt to an ordinance establishing the code.

Commissioners meet with county department heads

At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners, the county department heads gave updates on their activities.EMS Director Nathan Florian said everything was going good at EMS except for a leak in the headquarter’s roof which needs to be repaired.

Kanopolis keeps budget flat

KANOPOLIS — The tax rate will remain flat for residents in the city of Kanopolis the city council decided during its Aug. 8 meeting.“The mill rate should generate the exact same amount of tax as last year,” said Craig Dassow from Long & Associates.

El-Kan Western Riders Rodeo is Friday, Saturday in Ellsworth

Dirt and spurs will be flying this Friday and Saturday as the annual El-Kan Western Riders Rodeo takes place at the rodeo arena south of Ellsworth.Friday’s fun kicks off with mutton busting at 7 p.m. The cost to participate is $10 with a 65-pound weight limit. At 8 p.m.
