LUCAS — An atmosphere of concern tinged with cautious optimism filled the Lucas Area Community Theater Aug. 31, as the USD 299 Sylvan-Lucas Unified board of education conducted a community meeting regarding a possible land transfer of the Wilson Schools to USD 299.

Wilson approves new vehicle

WILSON — Two special meetings were conducted Aug. 30 by the Wilson City Council. The first concerned a new vehicle for the Wilson Police Department. The second was for five appeal hearings on abandoned/ vacant properties pertaining to Ordinance 854.

Kanopolis approves 2023 city budget

Special to the I-RThe Kanopolis City Council approved the city’s 2023 budget Monday during a special meeting at Kanopolis City Hall.City clerk Debbie Kralike said the budget increased from $874,083 in 2022 to $1,032,718 in 2023.

Karen Ruth Schultz Kohlmeier (1943-2022)

Karen Ruth Schultz Kohlmeier, 79, of Sabetha, died Aug. 15, 2022, at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., after suffering a stroke. She was born on March 17, 1943, in Ellsworth, Kan., to Walter and Lilly (Kohls) Schultz. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
