Sandra “Sandy” Sue McAtee, 83, of Winfield, Kan., passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 6, 2026, at her home. Sandy was born on June 27, 1943, in Ellsworth, Kan., to Dan and Lillian (Deming) Urbanek. She spent her childhood in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School. She then received her associate’s degree from Barton County Community College. On Sept. 1, 1962, she married Patrick McAtee, who survives, of the home.

Sandy is survived by her husband Pat; sons Dan (Chass) McAtee, Frisco, Texas, and Darin (Millie) McAtee, York, S.C.; grandchildren Seth, Alexis, Connor, Rylee, Ruth, Patrick, Charles (Boone) and Lilly; and great-granddaughter Mercy.

In addition, Sandy leaves behind her sister Rita (Ralph) Naegele, Troy, Ohio, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Dan and Lillian Urbanek.

Sandy was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Winfield. She was the church secretary for seven years. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary for Foulston Siefkin, Wichita. She was a member of Holy Name Altar Society, Theotokos and a member of P.E.O., Chapter CU, Winfield. She was a devout Catholic and was very active in church activities.

The rosary will be prayed on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. A luncheon will follow at the parish hall. Burial will take place at Ellsworth Cemetery, Ellsworth, Kan., on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials have been established in Sandy’s name for Holy Name Catholic School and for Cowley County Community College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
