Unexpected eventuality

  In September of 1854 Charles B. Boynton and T. B. Mason crossed Missouri’s western border into the newly organized Kansas Territory. Their experiences were published one year later in the book, A Journey Through Kansas.

Opportunity of change

Change is in the air. Children have grown over the summer and are starting the new school year a little more grown up. The promise of sunny, brisk days makes many of us excited to breakout hoodies and sweaters.

Every year over Memorial Day weekend, graduates of Wilson High School gather at the town’s parish hall to celebrate the past and catch up with friends, many of whom they probably haven’t seen since the last reunion 12 months earlier.

The Way West As the year of 1860 drew to a close the division of the United States appeared to be a looming certainty. The election of Abraham Lincoln drew a line in the sand over the continuation of slavery. South Carolina had taken the initiative to secede from the Union in late December.
