Green Garden Angus Farm, Ellsworth, has been ranked as the ninth largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Kansas with the American Angus Association during fiscal year 2023, which ended Sept. 30, according to Mark McCully, association chief executive officer. Angus breeders across the nation in 2023 registered 300,761 head of Angus cattle.

The Lone Star Dance Hall was one of Dodge City’s most popular resorts. Bat Masterson and Ben Springer were the owners of the Lone Star, which sported a long mahogany bar and a full complement of gambling tables. Charley Lawson’s orchestra provided music from a small stage that overlooked the dance floor in the rear of the room. The stage also provided the opportunity to produce variety shows on occasion.

Ending the Ellsworth football team’s seven- game winning streak, the Southeast of Saline Trojans came to town Oct. 20 and beat the Bearcats, 30-0, bringing the Trojans’ record to 8-0 and the Cats’ to 7-1.
