Central Plains considers district drug testing policy

WILSON — A recent drug-related incident at Central Plains Junior-Senior High School has led the Central Plains USD 112 board of education to consider a drug testing policy. At Monday’s board meeting at Wilson School, Greg Clark, superintendent, said the incident happened Jan. 23.

Wilson approves increases in grave fees

ILSON — The cost of being in the Wilson City Cemetery is going up. At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, Ordinance 859 was approved. The ordinance increases the cost of a opening a regular or mausoleum grave from $250 to $350, which was approved at the Jan. 19 meeting.

Value-added grants available

The Value Added Producer Grant program, one of the few U.S. Department of Agriculture grant programs available directly to farmers and ranchers, is now open. The grants help farmers and ranchers offset costs of developing or expanding their added-value products.

City considers meter reading system

Updating the water meter reading system in Ellsworth was a main focus of Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth City Council. Rusty Varnado, city administrator, had representatives from three businesses give 10-minute presentations on their automated metering infrastructure systems.

Wooton retires from Great Plains

On Jan. 20, Dale Wooton, plant manager of Great Plains Manufacturing in Ellsworth, celebrated not only his 65th birthday, but his retirement from Great Plains after 27 years of service. “It was a target I set years ago,” Wooton said.
