Fort Hays State University had taken an innovative approach in helping students begin career exploration early in high school, providing organized campus visits long before their senior years.

Seniors Grant Gwinner and Bransen Schulte, who both earned places on the 2018 All-League baseball team, lead this season’s Ellsworth team.

The Lady Bearcats softball team lost six seniors to graduation from 2018; however, eight seniors have stopped up this season to lead a team that already has wins against Beloit and Russell.

LARNED — The Central Plains Oilers competed in their first track meet of the season Tuesday, March 26. Out of 12 teams, the Oiler boys’ won seventh place, while the girls’ team took 10th place. The Scott Community took both the boys’ and girls’ titles.
ELLIS — The Ellsworth Lady ‘Cats defeated Ellis 12-0 Tuesday, March 26 in softball action, as pitchers Brenna Pruitt and Lizzy Hipp combined for a shutout.
In the first inning, the Bearcats scored three runs on a Jaide Talbott single.
Later in the game, Hipp hit a home run in the sixth inning.
The Central Plains boys’ and girls’ track teams collected several firstplace medals as well as placed several Oilers in the top-10 Thursday, March 28, at the LaCrosse invitational.
In only its second meet of the year, Central Plains faced off against nine other teams.
RUSSELL — Ellsworth swept its first varsity tennis tournament of the season March 28, scoring 50 points to take first place at the Russell varsity tennis meet.
The tournament has traditionally served as a battleground for Ellsworth and Central Plains, determining which team will come out ahead.
