Claflin students earn honors Several area students are among the 1,596 students named to the Deans Honor Roll for the fall 2019 semester by deans at Fort Hays State University: The Dean’s Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only.

Activities planned for FFA Week

FFA Week will be Feb. 20-28. Many activities are planned by Ellsworth members. Feb. 20: FFA Work Auction and Chili Feed: We will start at 6 p.m. serving chili and will then auction off FFA members for eight hours of work and announce the King and Queen of FFA.

After six rounds containing words such as jumbo, mister and ladybug, Wilson Junior-Senior High School eighth grade student Aiden Watts correctly spelled the word “rudiments” Jan. 29, to win the 2020 Ellsworth County Spelling Bee.

Signup for youth soccer is open

Feb. 21 is the deadline to register for the Ellsworth Recreation Department’s Youth Soccer League for the 2020 spring season. Youth leagues are offered for boys and girls: • 4-6 years old • 7-9 years old • 10-14 years old Registration fee is $25 per child.

Candidates determined to keep Kansas’ U.S. Senate seats in Republican hands quarreled Saturday over immigration, health care and federal spending, but no topic was more debated than who is the most friendly and in step with President Donald Trump.

Stoppel offers mission statement

Wilson may have a new mission statement. Council member Ryan Stoppel offered a suggestion at the Jan. 21 meeting for a mission statement for the City of Wilson — “Building a community for today and tomorrow.” The idea was met with approval; however, no action was taken.

Ellsworth Honor Roll

Officials at Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School have announced the names of students earning Honor Roll status for the first semester. The students are: High Honor Roll (GPA 3.876 or above; All A’s or all A’s and one B) Seniors — Cody Bourbon, Jordyn Coonrod, Hayden Rogers, Jaide Talbott.
