Gov. Laura Kelly has appointed Judge Evelyn Z. Wilson to the Kansas Supreme Court. Wilson will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Lee Johnson.

County receives holiday surprise from judge

Ellsworth County has received an early Christmas gift. At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners, Judge Mike Keeley of the 20th Judicial District presented the county with a $74,680 check.

KANOPOLIS — The Kanopolis City Council approved a motion at the Dec. 10 meeting to wait until next November to have the voters decide whether or not to adopt the proposed chicken ordinance.

Wilson gives nod to charter ordinance

WILSON — The transient guest tax was once again on the radar of the Wilson City Council Monday. The council approved Charter Ordinance 1-2019, which replaced the ordinance passed it passed in July 2019. The guest tax stays at 3 percent, one percent higher than the state statute.

Claflin council members discuss a variety of items

The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session, Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, in the city building. Present were: Mayor Michael Urban; Councilpersons: Dan Michaelis, Dustin Daniels, Doug Hubbard and Casey Hubbard.

Ellsworth district receives state Star recognition

The Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District has been notified by the Kansas State Department of Education that it is one of 39 in the state to receive recognition through the Kansans Can Star Recognition Program.
