State revenues healthy

The Kansas Legislative session is underway for 2022.We reconvened on Jan. 10 and will continue our General Session through the first week of April.State revenues have been very strong and we start the year with the largest ending balance I have seen.

A monumental loss

Assembling a government for the new Territory of Kansas was a monumental task following the adoption of the Kansas Nebraska Act in 1854. A pro-slavery legislature was rejected by the abolitionist Free State citizens.In Leavenworth the election over the 1855 Topeka Constitution was disrupted.

PROS AND CONS

Good morning, as many have heard, the district, over the last 9-10 months has been exploring the option of moving our 4th grade students from Ellsworth Elementary School to Kanopolis Middle School.

If we had to select two favorite books out of the thousands we’ve read over the years, our votes would go to “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee and “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald — Mockingbird for its content and Gatsby for its style.
