Volleyball team sweeps Republic County

The Bearcat volleyball team started their season with a sweep over Republic County Aug. 29.In the first match of the night, the team dominated from the start. They won in two sets, 25-13 and 25-21.

Excessive heat prompts schedule changes for local athletic teams

Temperatures that top triple-digits for nearly a week resulted in adjustments for Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School athletic teams.“It is common in August and September for coaches to have to make adjustments to practice times and schedules due to the heat,” Athletic Director Ron Davis Jr. said.

Outfields get irrigation system

The adult summer softball league was cut a little short this year — for good reason. The outfields at the Ellsworth Sports Complex received irrigation systems.“It makes things safer as far as the playing area,” Ellsworth Recreation Director Ron Tenbrink said.

Trap team competes at state

The Ellsworth Jr./ Sr. High School trap team competed at the Kansas Trap Shooting Association’s annual state trap shooting tournament in Sedgwick June 16-18.Ellsworth placed second overall in the novice division and was only two targets away from first.
