Full tennis team advances to state

LYONS — The Ellsworth girls’ tennis team brought home first place at the 3-2-1A Regional Tournament Oct. 10-11, with all six players qualifying for state.Ellsworth placed first with 18 points.“Our girls really played well on Friday and Saturday,” head coach Eric Anderson said.

Runners have success at home meet

The Ellsworth boys’ and girls’ crosscountry teams hosted their annual Ellsworth Invitational Oct. 7 at the Ellsworth Golf Course.Head coach Eric Coonrod said the course is “known for its hills.”“Medals are hardearned at Ellsworth,” Coonrod said.

Tennis nabs first place at league meet

LYONS — The Ellsworth girls’ tennis team traveled to Lyons Oct. 6 for the NCAA League Tournament, bringing home first place in team awards.Ellsworth took first with 28 points, followed by Beloit in second, Lyons in third and Sacred Heart in fourth.

Bearcat volleyball sweeps Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — The Ellsworth volleyball team traveled to Minneapolis Sept. 30 to take on the Lions in an NCAA league doubleheader. The Bearcats made it a clean sweep over the Lions by winning both matches 2-0.

Bearcats secure homecoming win, remain undefeated

The Ellsworth Bearcats played their Homecoming game against Lyons Sept. 26, demolishing the Lions 50-3.The game got off to a slow start. While the Lions were never expected to win, the Bearcats seemed to take their time getting started.

Bearcats spike Knights

SALINA — The Ellsworth volleyball team traveled to Salina Sept. 16 to take on the Sacred Heart Knights in a league double- header. The Bearcats made a clean sweep of Sacred Heart with scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-15, 25-11.

Tennis tops Lindsborg tourney

LINDSBORG — The Ellsworth girls’ tennis team took home the team medal, as well as four individual medals, Sept. 11 at the Smoky Valley Tennis Classic. The Bearcats scored first out of eight teams with 58 points.Junior Karli Haase placed first overall in singles.

Bearcats lance Knights 49-8 in season opener

The Ellsworth football team faced off against the Sacred Heart Knights Friday at home, where the Bearcats crushed the Knights 49-8.The game got off to a rough start. It seemed like both teams needed time to get used to playing football again after the long break.

Netters sweep Republic County in league matchup

The Ellsworth Jr./ Sr. High School volleyball team played host to the to the Republic County Buffaloes in an NCAA league contest for their home opener Sept. 2, with the Bearcats winning both matches in convincing fashion.
