Bearcats football ends season at Lakin

The Ellsworth High School varsity Bearcats football team traveled the long distance west to Lakin Nov. 1 to face off against the Broncs in the first round of the 2A state playoffs. The Bearcats’ hopes of a playoff run, however, were ruined with a 21-14 loss.

The Ellsworth High School boys and girls cross country teams competed Saturday at the 2A state championship meet in Wamego. The boys finished in seventh place, while the girls finished 11th. The girls ran first at 11:10 a.m.

Lady Oilers are 1A State volleyball champs

CLAFLIN — There is joy in Oilers Nation as the Central Plains Junior-Senior High School Lady Oilers Volleyball Team won the 1A State Volleyball Championship Tournament Saturday in Dodge City. “I am so proud of the girls down this final stretch of our season,” said head coach Lisa Crites.

Ellsworth County and area athletes made their presence known this past week as Ellsworth cross country teams took first and second places and the Central Plains volleyball team placed second in competition at Ell-Saline High School. Congratulations and good luck at state.

The Wilson Lady Dragons volleyball team recently competed in the Northern Plains League High School Volleyball Tournament. Thunder Ridge placed first in the tournament, with St. John’s/Tipton second, Lakeside third, and Pike Valley fourth.

Dragons lose to Sylvan-Lucas 56-8 in away gridiron game

SYLVAN GROVE — The Wilson High School Dragons football team lost another road game Oct. 25 against the Mustangs of Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School by a score of 8-56. Head coach Tony Brokes and the purple and white are now 1-7 on the season.

Oilers lose 68-22 to Macksville ending regular football season

MACKSVILLE — The Central Plains High School Oilers varsity football team went down to defeat to the Mustangs of Macksville Oct. 25 at Macksville 68-22. The loss is the latest for head coach Chris Steiner and his Oilers squad. Central Plains is now 2-6 overall on the season.

1A SUB-STATE CHAMPS

The Central Plains High School Lady Oilers Volleyball Team won the recent 1A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament. Against Thunder Ridge, Central Plains served six aces; two by Lexi Oeser and one each by Rachel Lamatsch, Ryenne Cunningham, Riley Thompson and Kassidy Nixon.

EHS volleyball ends season with loss

The Ellsworth High School varsity Lady ‘Cats volleyball team traveled to Ell-Saline Oct. 27 to compete in the sub-state tournament as the fifth seed team. Ellsworth opened the day with the number four seeded Sacred Heart Knights. Ellsworth scraped by with a win in three sets over the Knights.
