Three Central Plains football players to compete at Beloit

The 34th annual Kansas 8 Man All Star Football games will be played Saturday, June 8, at Beloit with three Central Plains players — and Head Coach Chris Steiner — on board. • Myles Menges of Bushton, a 2019 graduate of Central Plains, will be a member of the Division I West Team.

Oiler Alex Hickel takes second at state golf

Central Plains’ Alex Hickel finished 1 back from Class 1A state golf champion Eli Bullinger of Montezuma-South Gray to finish in second place at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Senior Hickel posted 6-over 75. Bullinger had 5-over 75.

‘Cats named to All-League teams

Ellsworth placed three players on the North Central Activities Association 2019 Softball All-League team. Brenna Pruitt and Sierra Kraatz were named to the team. Jaide Talbott received an honorable mention.

Bearcats bring home seven state medals

Josiah Bolton’s first state track meet proved to be a messy one — through no fault of his own. Storms delayed the first day of the Kansas State Track and Field Championships for three hours Friday morning in Wichita. More storms halted the full day’s schedule about two hours later.

Haxton pleased with golf team

SALINA — The Ellsworth Bearcats boys’ golf team has been making strides all season long. Despite a tough NCAA League golf tournament Thursday at Salina Municipal Golf Course, Head Coach Kevin Haxton is pleased with the team’s progress as golfers head into the regional and state tournaments.

Ellsworth, Oiler tennis players take second

PRAIRIE VILLAGE — Ellsworth’s No. 1 singles player Joey Oberle took second place at the 2019 Class 3-2-1A Boys’ state tennis tournament this past weekend in Prairie Village. Oberle, who finished in first place at regionals, entered the state tournament with a 28-1 record.

‘Cats bring home seven gold medals

SALINA — Several firstplace finishes on the Lady ‘Cats track team helped the Ellsworth girls clinch fifth place Friday at the NCAA League track and field meet hosted by Salina’s Sacred Heart at Kansas Wesleyan University. The Ellsworth boys’ team also took fifth place.
