Telemetry system purchase gets nod

WILSON — The Wilson City Council approved the purchase of a new telemetry system for the city water wells from Don’s Electric to the exceed $70,000 during Monday’s meeting.It was the first purchase made from the $112,000 Wilson received in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

The Smoky Hill Chapter DAR held their first meeting for 202223 on Sept. 12 at the home of Marcie Beneda, Wilson. Members present were: Candace Richard, Glennice Musselwhite, Debra Hulse, Pat Svaty and Marcie Beneda.Regent Debra Hulse called the meeting to order.

Various transportation options exist in Ellsworth County

Area transportation options for senior citizens was the focus of a Sept. 23 talk at the Ellsworth Senior Center.“Transportation is important for everyone of all ages,” said Michelle Griffin, mobility manager for the North Central Kansas Coordinated District.

Hospital to increase room rates in November

The price of a patient stay at Ellsworth County Medical Center will increase soon.At the Sept. 21 meeting of the hospital’s board of directors Charles Lewing, director of finance, recommended several changes. All were approved.

Group eyes vacant Wilson lot

WILSON — There was news during Monday’s Wilson City Council meeting concerning the vacant lot owned by the city where the former Otasco building once stood.Mayor Mike Peschka said a group would like to develop the lot and has applied for grant funding to do so.

County looks at jail A/C fix

Sheriff Murray Marston gave an update to Ellsworth County commissioners Monday regarding the piecemeal replacement of the 18 air conditioning units at the sheriff ’s office/ jail.The Daikin models range from $3,000 for the smallest unit to $4,900 for the largest.

Making a mural

HOLYROOD — At the base of the water tower, several families gathered Saturday morning to assist with the town’s first mural.Twelve-year-old Emery Siemsen chose to use yellow because it’s a bright color.“It’s pretty cool that the town is coming together and doing a painting,” she said.
