The Ellsworth Bearcats varsity football team traveled to Hays Oct. 24 to battle against the Hays Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs. The Monarchs controlled the game from start to finish. The final score was 31-20, giving TMP its second win of the season.

For the first time since 2004, the Ellsworth High School boys and girls cross country teams will compete at the state meet Nov. 2 at Wamego. The teams qualified after competing in the 2A Regional Oct. 26 in Hutchinson. The boys finished first overall; the girls placed second.

The Central Plains Senior High School Oilers took yet another step backwards Friday, being defeated by Moundridge, 56-8. It was the fifth loss for head coach Chris Steiner and his Oilers squad for the 2019 season.

This past Thursday, the Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Cross Country Team traveled to the Downs Golf Course to compete in the Lakeside Invitational Meet. “This is a fairly large meet with over 20 schools competing,” said head coach Eric Coonrod.

The Ellsworth Lady Bearcats competed against the Southeast of Saline Trojans Oct. 15. The ‘Cats defeated the Trojans in both matches, 25-10, 25-18, 25-13, and 25-20. The wins improved the Bearcats’ record and gave them some momentum.

PRAIRIE VILLAGE — The Central Plains Lady Oilers tennis team placed second overall in Class 3-2-1A state competition Oct. 18-19 in Prairie Village. Ellsworth placed fifth.

Stakes were high Friday night as the Ellsworth Bearcats played the Norton Bluejays in the fourth week of district play. Norton defeated the Bearcats, 36-14, giving Ellsworth their second loss of the season. The game did not get off to a fast start.
