Emmy Kempke joins Wichita firm

Adams Brown, Strategic Allies and CPAs, has added Emmy Kempke to its expanding Wichita team. Prior to joining as a staff accountant in the tax department, Emmy worked with the firm as an intern and student worker, starting in 2017.

Wilson approves increases in grave fees

ILSON — The cost of being in the Wilson City Cemetery is going up. At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, Ordinance 859 was approved. The ordinance increases the cost of a opening a regular or mausoleum grave from $250 to $350, which was approved at the Jan. 19 meeting.

Value-added grants available

The Value Added Producer Grant program, one of the few U.S. Department of Agriculture grant programs available directly to farmers and ranchers, is now open. The grants help farmers and ranchers offset costs of developing or expanding their added-value products.

City considers meter reading system

Updating the water meter reading system in Ellsworth was a main focus of Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth City Council. Rusty Varnado, city administrator, had representatives from three businesses give 10-minute presentations on their automated metering infrastructure systems.

Wooton retires from Great Plains

On Jan. 20, Dale Wooton, plant manager of Great Plains Manufacturing in Ellsworth, celebrated not only his 65th birthday, but his retirement from Great Plains after 27 years of service. “It was a target I set years ago,” Wooton said.

Two USD 112 classes affected by quarantine

HOLYROOD Greg Clark, superintendent of Central Plains USD 112, presented an update on COVID-19 during the Jan. 11 meeting of the district’s board of education at Central Plains Elementary School in Holyrood. Clark said two classes at CPES are in modified quarantine for 10 days due to the virus.

Kanopolis has a pump problem

KANOPOLIS — The City of Kanopolis has a problem with a water well pump. At the Jan. 12 meeting of the Kanopolis City Council, Mike Bunch of the city crew said one of two chemical pumps at Well No. 8 is not working. Bunch removed the pump and sent it back to the company.

Wilson City

WILSON — In February, the Wilson City Council will begin meeting one hour earlier. At Monday’s council meeting, approval was given to change the time of council meetings from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m., beginning Feb. 1. The council will continue to meet the first and third Mondays of the month at city hall.
