More than a town

Letter to the Editor, We are one of the many who have suffered from COVID-19. My reason for this Letter to the Editor is to reenforce how much our community has to be grateful for. I spent about 2 1/2 weeks in our hospital.

Lesson from the past

Letter to the Editor: It was noted that several people have been flying the confederate flag around town and some are offended. First I am greatly offended that anyone would compare flying the confederate flag to flying the Nazi Swastika. The comparison is not even close.

Budget work picked up this week in the Kansas legislature. Passing a budget for the state is the one statutory requirement the legislature must achieve each year.

Ellsworth County is not out of the woods, but we may be getting closer to the highway with the coronavirus pandemic. County Health Department, said several days ago that the county saw a decline in additional active cases across one week and then an increase the next.

The Kansas legislative session hit full stride this third week. Committee meeting schedules are full. We met in the House chamber one day to consider the bills that have been passed in their initial committee. Last week I mentioned issues with unemployment insurance.

A Bridge too Far

In early January, 1867, Jack McDowell of Kansas City stepped into the W. K. Pollard Livery at Council Grove in need of transportation to Junction City. Pollard had been in Council Grove since 1857. He had seen hundreds of travelers passing along the trail, most of them in a rush to move on.

Student comments on point

The Kansas legislative session continued into its second week. It was a big week in our nation with the inauguration of President Biden. Security concerns were unfortunately high in capitals across the country.
