Softball defeats Buffaloes 9-3, 15-6

BELLEVILLE — In their final regular season game of the year, the Bearcat softball team took two wins against Republic County May 9 on the road. The first game ended 9-3 and the second 15-6.The Cats quickly made their way on base.

Anderson nets 100th career win

Special to the i-rThe Ellsworth boys’ varsity tennis team took third place out of nine teams at the 321A Regional Tennis Meet at home May 2-3 and advanced senior Brendan Anderson to the state contest. Anderson also reached a career milestone as he won his 100th game.

Cats run rule Little River 21-0

The Ellsworth Bearcat baseball team played Little River High School April 26 at home, defeating the Redskins 11-1 and 21-0.The top of the first was quick for the Redskins. They had four plays and almost immediately got three strikeouts, ending any opportunity for a strong start.

Girls take 1 win, 1 loss at Kingman

KINGMAN — In their triangular competition against Kingman and Nickerson April 22, the Ellsworth softball team took one win and one loss. In a run-rule, the team was beaten by the Kingman Eagles 17-2, but then turned around and run-ruled the Nickerson Panthers 16-1.

Softball snags twin wins

Rounding out a victorious week, the Bearcat softball team took two wins against the Spearville High School Lancers April 19 at home. The first game ended 11-3, and the Cats won by run rule in the second, 13-3.Throughout the duration of the first game, Ellsworth dominated defensively.

Throwers place well at Sterling

STERLING — The Ellsworth Bearcat track team traveled to Sterling to compete April 19.“Our throwers will continue to place well at meets this year,” Head Coach Nick Rodriguez said. “Several had their best marks this season or personal records.

Tough track meet

Teams compete at historically difficult Smoky Valley meetLINDSBORG — The Smoky Valley High School track meet is historically a difficult one for the Bearcat track team, but the athletes overcame challenges to compete on April 12 at the Bethany College stadium in Lindsborg.

Golf team takes third at Minneapolis, two medal

MINNEAPOLIS — At the Minneapolis meet April 9, the golf team found success, earning a third place finish and new individual medals.As the team continues to settle into the rhythm of the sport, each player is beginning to find progress on competition days.

Baseball catches two home wins

The Ellsworth baseball team played a double header against the Russell Broncos April 2, taking home two victories. They won both games 10-8.The first game started out with both teams swinging. In the top of the first, The Broncos scored 2 runs immediately before getting their third out.

Softball secures home victories

The softball team played their first home doubleheader of the season April 2, where they took two wins against Russell. The first game ended 19-3 and the second ended 17-3.As the home team, the Cats took the field first, where they let only two runners on base, allowing neither to score.
