SPECIAL TO THE I-RCreston, Iowa — Emma Moore, Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School May graduate and two-year all-state softball selection, has signed a national letter of intent to play softball for the Spartans of Southwestern Community College.

Three compete at state track

WICHITA — The Ellsworth track team took three athletes, two sprinters and one distance runner, to the state track meet in Wichita May 24-25.A send-off down Douglas Avenue celebrated the athletes as they headed to their biggest meet of the year. All three placed in the top eight.

Three advance to state track in Wichita

BELOIT — The Bearcat track team competed at the regional meet May 16, qualifying three to compete at the state level. They had to place in the top four to advance.Freshman Molly Ehrlich was the top placer for the Bearcats, competing in the 3,200m run and finishing second with a time of 12:25.27.

Anderson takes 11th at state tennis

PRAIRIE VILLAGE — Ellsworth senior Brendan Anderson took 11th place at the state tennis meet May 10-11.Ranked No. 9, Anderson began the state competition against the No. 24-ranked Wicks of Marysville. He won the match and moved on to compete against Al-Tabbal of Wichita Collegiate.

Softball defeats Buffaloes 9-3, 15-6

BELLEVILLE — In their final regular season game of the year, the Bearcat softball team took two wins against Republic County May 9 on the road. The first game ended 9-3 and the second 15-6.The Cats quickly made their way on base.

Anderson nets 100th career win

Special to the i-rThe Ellsworth boys’ varsity tennis team took third place out of nine teams at the 321A Regional Tennis Meet at home May 2-3 and advanced senior Brendan Anderson to the state contest. Anderson also reached a career milestone as he won his 100th game.

Cats run rule Little River 21-0

The Ellsworth Bearcat baseball team played Little River High School April 26 at home, defeating the Redskins 11-1 and 21-0.The top of the first was quick for the Redskins. They had four plays and almost immediately got three strikeouts, ending any opportunity for a strong start.

Girls take 1 win, 1 loss at Kingman

KINGMAN — In their triangular competition against Kingman and Nickerson April 22, the Ellsworth softball team took one win and one loss. In a run-rule, the team was beaten by the Kingman Eagles 17-2, but then turned around and run-ruled the Nickerson Panthers 16-1.
