Ehrlich places sixth at state

LAWRENCE — In a sea of 108 runners on a rainy day at the infamous Rim Rock Farm course Nov. 2, Ellsworth’s sophomore Molly Ehrlich took sixth place and was named to the First Team All-State cross country team. Those who place first through 10th places are named to the team.

Cats lose at regional playoff football game

HOISINGTON — The Ellsworth football team fell to the Hoisington Cardinals 28-14 in the regional playoff game Nov. 1, ending the Bearcats’ season.The game started out slowly. It seemed like it was difficult for the Cats to get anywhere on the field.

The Ellsworth cross country team ran at their own meet Oct. 8. They were ranked sixth overall in the girls’ 5K, but they did not have enough runners on the boys’ team to rank.Leader for the girls was sophomore Molly Ehrlich who ran 5K in 21:40:89 and placed third, her sixth medal of the season.

Homecoming victory for Bearcats

E ight seconds into the fourth quarter of Ellsworth’s homecoming game, Hillsboro fumbled the ball. This single event, late in a low-scoring game, turned the tide, allowing the Bearcats a 14-6 victory over the Trojans.The fumble came at a time when the Trojans had a razor-thin 1-point lead, 7-6.

Tennis continues to sizzle the competition

HESSTON — The Ellsworth tennis team played at the Hesston Invitational Sept. 24. They won first with 30 points, vastly outpacing the competition.First was No. 1 singles, played by sophomore Karli Haase. There was no safety for Haven when she beat them 8-0.

Volleyball team sweeps Sacred Heart, works to ‘build momentum’

SALINA — The Bearcat varsity volleyball team competed against the Sacred Heart Knights Sept. 17, on the road, playing two matches and winning both.The Cats won the opening set 25-20. The second set was similar, with the Cats winning 25-19. There was no need for a third.
