BELOIT — The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team competed against the Beloit Trojans Dec. 20 and lost 71-39.The game got off on a very sour note. While both teams were putting numbers on the board, the Cats were starting to fall behind.

Ellsworth girls trounce Trojans

BELOIT — The Ellsworth Bearcat girls’ basketball team played the Beloit Trojans Dec. 20 and won 48-44.The game started on an extremely productive foot. The Cats started by establishing a lead over the Trojans, who were also scoring.

Girls’ wrestling season starts slow

Girls’ wrestling at Great BendGREAT BEND — The Ellsworth girls’ wrestling team competed at the Great Bend Tournament Dec. 14, placing 18th out of 25 teams.The only wrestler who placed was sophomore Sophie Homolka in the 145-lb. bracket. She started by winning against Colby 10-0.

Lady Bearcats shread Lions in season opener

The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team played Lyons Dec. 6 at home, obliterating the Lions 49-19.The game got off to somewhat of a slow start, with both teams taking a while to get much of anywhere. Junior Lainey Peschka was the top scorer for Ellsworth in the first quarter, making a 3-pointer.

Bearcats boys fall flat against Lions to open season

The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team competed against the Lyons Lions Dec. 6, losing 55-32. The game started out on a horrible foot. The Lions almost immediately established a massive lead and the Bearcats struggled to keep up. Lead scorer was junior Tucker Goss, who scored a 3-pointer.

Ehrlich places sixth at state

LAWRENCE — In a sea of 108 runners on a rainy day at the infamous Rim Rock Farm course Nov. 2, Ellsworth’s sophomore Molly Ehrlich took sixth place and was named to the First Team All-State cross country team. Those who place first through 10th places are named to the team.

Cats lose at regional playoff football game

HOISINGTON — The Ellsworth football team fell to the Hoisington Cardinals 28-14 in the regional playoff game Nov. 1, ending the Bearcats’ season.The game started out slowly. It seemed like it was difficult for the Cats to get anywhere on the field.
