Tennis players prepare for state

The Ellsworth Tennis Team, at left, took 2nd this past weekend at 3-2-1A regionals at Sacred Heart High School, Salina. The No. 1 doubles team of Brendan Anderson and Adam Vehring placed second. The No. 2 doubles team of Chase Bourbon and Jaret Brungardt placed sixth.

Central Plains team breaks school record

Bearcats Trey Anderson an Kylan Turnipseed brought home first place medals May 7 from the Ellinwood Invitational. Anderson ran in the 200m dash; Tunipseed competed in the javelin throw. Women’s Results 100m Dash — 3rd Shaylee Leiker 13.04 100m Hurdles — 4th Braeden Sheridan 20.

Turnipseed sets EHS girls’ javelin record

Ellsworth freshman Kylan Turnipseed set a school record for javelin throwing April 30 at the Beloit Relays. She sent the javelin 116 feet, earning her a second place overall. “We just got the new javelin she set the record with on Wednesday so she really has only thrown it a handful of times.

Two members of the Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School golf team scored in the top five during the April 1 varsity golf tournament at the Hoisington Invitational at Lake Barton Golf Course in Hoisington.

‘Cats near season’s end

It was unofficially senior night Tuesday, April 27, when the Ellsworth High School baseball team played its last regular season home games against Lincoln/Sylan-Lucas.

Lady ‘Cats wreck Little River early on

The Ellsworth Lady ‘Cats softball team couldn’t seem to do anything wrong Friday, April 23, as they buried Little River in a non-conference double header. In the second game, Emma Moore threw a shutout to lead the Lady ‘Cats past Little River 19-0.

Central Plains, Ellsworth take home tennis medals

The Central Plains Tennis Meet was Monday, April 19, with three schools participating — Central Plains, Meade, and Ellsworth. Both of the Ellsworth doubles teams placed first. Doubles team No. 1 is Adam Vehring and Brendan Anderson. Doubles team No. 2 is Chase Bourbon and Jaret Brungardt.

Ellsworth golf team controls the greens

April 13 was the kind of day that makes golf worthwhile. The Ellsworth Bearcat Golf Team landed in first place with 367 strokes at the Minneapolis Invitational Tournament. In addition, five team members received medals for finishing in the top 10.
