‘Cats win double over Plainville

Monday night was a good time to be a Bearcat. The Ellsworth boys and girls played Plainville at home, and for the second time this season, both teams walked away with a regular season win the same night. The girls won 45-36; the boys posted a 58-37 win over the Cardinals.

Oilers have a mixed week

The Lady Oilers took a close loss Tuesday night to Hesston, 36-42. Central Plains fell behind early, trailing 3-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Oilers battled back, outscoring the Eagles in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, tying the game going into the 4th.

Oiler girls add another tournament win

The No. 1 ranked Central Plains Lady Oilers ended this past week’s St. John Midwinter Classic Saturday with three players in double digits and another title to their record. Central Plains rolled to the championship with a score of 64-40 over tournament host St. John.

Bearcats compete at Winter Jam

The Ellsworth Bearcats captured third place this past week at Hoisington’s Winter Jam. The ‘Cats were stopped Friday on their way to the championship game by Hoisington, the tournament’s No. 1 seed and eventual champion. The final score in the hard-fought game was 50-46.

Romero wins 1st place in weight bracket

Ellsworth’s Tyler Romero took first place Friday in his 195-pound weight category at the Larned Wrestling Invitational. Romero, a senior with an 11-2 win-loss record, recorded a fall at the 4:41 mark over Toby Woodworth of Ellsworth, a senior with a 15-6 record.

Ellsworth fall to Beloit 62-54

The Ellsworth High School Bearcats Boys Basketball Team lost on the road Jan. 12 in a heartbreaker to the Beloit Trojans, 51-62. After Beloit jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Bearcat senior Braden Schulte scored 3 points to put Ellsworth in the lead.

Wilson basketball teams split games with the Tescott Trojans

Led by senior Camryn Eberhart with 19 points, the Wilson High School Dragons Boys Basketball Team came out on top Jan. 15 in a home game against Tescott, 38-20. Also scoring in double digits for the Dragons was senior Garrett Thielen with 11 points.

Dragons split with Southern Cloud

Seniors Camryn Eberhart and Garrett Thielen combined for 30 points in a win at home Friday night over Southern Cloud. Eberhart scored 17 points; Thielen contributed 13. They were the only Dragons in double digits. “We executed on the defense end very well.
