The Central Plains boys lost a heartbreaker to Stockton March 5 by a score of 41-44 in Russell during sub-state competition. JJ Heredia made 17 points for the Oilers. Heredia also had 1 steal, 1 defensive rebound, and 1 assist. Lawson Oeser scored 9 points for Central Plains.

Lady Oilers dominate Wheatland State competition is next

The Lady Oilers played Wheatland/Grinnell at Russell for the sub-state championship game and won solidly by a whopping 82-22 score. Emily Ryan led the Lady Oilers with the most points on the score board with 30. Ryan also had 8 assists, 3 defensive rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.

The Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs overcame an eightpoint third quarter deficit and defeated Central Plains 42-35 Saturday night in the Class 1A regional championship game on the Oilers home court at Central Plains High School in Claflin.

The Central Plains Lady Oilers continued to extend what is now the third longest winning streak in American sports history — at 133 games — with a 68-24 win over Otis-Bison Saturday night in regional play at Claflin. The Lady Oilers now advance to substate play at Russell.

HAYS — Four Ellsworth Bearcat grapplers travelled to the Class 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday at Fort Hays State University. Tyler Walford and Brendon Tripp each fought their way to fourth and sixth places, respectively, in their weight categories.

Lady Dragons fight hard against the Pike Valley Panthers Fri. Feb. 21 at home. Macy Hanzlick took the lead for her team scoring 13 points through out the game. Hanzlick also had 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Cara Criswell put 9 points in the basket for the Dragons.

Central Plains rolls past Wilson in first playoff game

The postseason has arrived and those green and white jerseys still say “Oilers.” Central Plains led USD 112 counterpart Wilson by just four points at the half of Monday’s Class 1A regional game in Claflin. The Oilers turned that into a running clock early in the fourth en route to a big 58-22 win.
