Because of early deadlines during the holiday season, pages for the Dec. 19 Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter had to be sent to the printer before statistics were received from the Amos Morris Classic at Russell.

Central Plains Oilers

The Lady Oilers dominated the court Tuesday, Dec. 17, against the St. John Lady Tigers with a final score of 68-14. Senior Emily Ryan led the team with 24 points — 17 of those coming in the first half. Joining Ryan in double digit points were Addison Crites with 13 points and Lexie Oeser with 11.

Dragons for the wins

The Palco Roosters received a less-thanfriendly reception Tuesday, Dec. 17, as they ventured into non-conference territory at Wilson. Both Dragon teams defeated Palco with the girls’ game being especially dramatic.

‘Cat wrestlers to compete at Russell regional

Russell High School has been selected to host one of the four Class 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournaments in February. Postseason assignments were announced Monday, Dec. 16, by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

Dragons finish Tescott Tournament

Wilson High School junior Garrett Theilen was named Dragon Player of the Game this past week by MaxPreps following his team’s participation in the annual Tescott Tournament. The Dragons won their first game against host Tescott, 50-34.

Ellsworth participates in classic at Russell

The Ellsworth Bearcats rolled a double seven this past week at the Amos Morris Classic basketball at Russell. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams ended the tournament in seventh place after a week of games that started Monday, Dec. 9, and ended with the championship game Saturday, Dec. 14.

The Central Plains Lady Oilers maintained their place at the top of 1A basketball this week following their championship performance at the Amos Morris Classic at Russell. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association released its high school rankings for the week of Dec.

Dragons open season with win

The Wilson Dragons kicked off their 2019-20 basketball season with a 39-34 non-conference win Friday night over Otis-Bison. Junior Garrett Theilen led Wilson with 13 point, followed closely by senior Westin Hughes with 12. Theilen also had three blocks.
