Ellsworth native Takota Anderson loves football. “I started playing football when I was about 5 years old. Friends, family, and neighbors would come over and we would play in the backyard,” Anderson said. “As I grew up it went to flag, PeeWee, junior high, and then high school football.

Oilers split Haven games

For about 15 minutes Friday, Haven had high hopes of ending the state’s longest winning streak. The Lady Wildcats entered the game ranked No. 8 in Class 3A, and pulled within two of the Lady Oilers early in the third quarter.

Wilson girls win; boys drop close game

Wilson’s Lady Dragons placed a game in the win column Friday, Dec. 20, with a 27-16 score over Lincoln at home. Macy Hanzlick scored 11 points for the team. Wilson had a 2 point lead after the first quarter with a score of 6-4.

Beloit too much for ‘Cats

The Bearcats played a fastpaced game Friday night, Dec. 20, at home against Beloit but couldn’t overcome the Trojans, who left town with a 61-49 victory. Beloit tipped the scale right off the bat by getting the tip-off to start the game.

Ellsworth Stats

Because of early deadlines during the holiday season, pages for the Dec. 19 Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter had to be sent to the printer before statistics were received from the Amos Morris Classic at Russell.

Central Plains Oilers

The Lady Oilers dominated the court Tuesday, Dec. 17, against the St. John Lady Tigers with a final score of 68-14. Senior Emily Ryan led the team with 24 points — 17 of those coming in the first half. Joining Ryan in double digit points were Addison Crites with 13 points and Lexie Oeser with 11.

Dragons for the wins

The Palco Roosters received a less-thanfriendly reception Tuesday, Dec. 17, as they ventured into non-conference territory at Wilson. Both Dragon teams defeated Palco with the girls’ game being especially dramatic.

‘Cat wrestlers to compete at Russell regional

Russell High School has been selected to host one of the four Class 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournaments in February. Postseason assignments were announced Monday, Dec. 16, by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
