WILSON — It wasn’t the Homecoming game the Wilson High School Dragons football team and the Dragon’s faithful fans had planned at home for the Oct. 4 match-up against the Huskies of Northern Valley. Northern Valley defeated the Dragons in a tough 42-32 loss.

The EJSHS cross country team traveled to Camp Wa Ja outside of Lyons Oct. 1, to compete in their invitational meet. Ellsworth head coach Eric Coonrod said after a 45 minute delay for rain and lightning, the competition was started with the 7th grade mile race.

Lady ‘Cats Varsity Volleyball now 10-11 on the season

The Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Lady Bearcats Varsity Volleyball team came away with a 10-11 record Oct. 1 after taking on Minneapolis. The Lady ‘Cats varsity squad played two rounds against Minneapolis.

Hoisington defeats the Bearcats

Two unbeaten teams remained in Class 2A, District 8 heading into the fifth week of the season, Ellsworth and Hoisington. Top-ranked Hoisington beat Ellsworth in dominating fashion Friday night with a 49-7 win. Ellsworth won the coin toss and chose to defer.

Lady ‘Cats varsity volleyball is now 9-10

The Ellsworth Lady Bearcats varsity volleyball team came away with an overall record of 9-10 after battling opponents Sept. 28 at Lyons. In pool play, Ellsworth lost two games to Lyons, 21-25 and 20-25. The Lady ‘Cats went on to defeat Lincoln in the second round 25-17 and 25-12.

Oilers skunked by Little River 48-0

CLAFLIN — It wasn’t the homecoming the Central Plains High School Oilers football team wished for. On the contrary, rather than a big Homecoming victory against Little River, the Oilers were crushed 48-0. In the air, the Oilers were just two for eight for a total of just eight yards.

Wilson falls to Logan/Palco

WILSON — The Wilson High School Dragons football team suffered a third loss on the 2019 season Sept. 27, falling to the Logan/Palco Trojans at home, 54-14. In the passing department, the Dragons, coached by Tony Brokes, were four of 11 for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

EJSHS runners do well at meet

Last week, the Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School cross country runners competed at the Southeast of Saline meet. “The course was a little different this year, thanks to the construction on and around the football stadium,” head coach Eric Coonrod said.
