CLAFLIN — It wasn’t the homecoming the Central Plains High School Oilers football team wished for. On the contrary, rather than a big Homecoming victory against Little River, the Oilers were crushed 48-0. In the air, the Oilers were just two for eight for a total of just eight yards.

Wilson falls to Logan/Palco

WILSON — The Wilson High School Dragons football team suffered a third loss on the 2019 season Sept. 27, falling to the Logan/Palco Trojans at home, 54-14. In the passing department, the Dragons, coached by Tony Brokes, were four of 11 for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Last week, the Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School cross country runners competed at the Southeast of Saline meet. “The course was a little different this year, thanks to the construction on and around the football stadium,” head coach Eric Coonrod said.

CLAFLIN — The Central Plains High School Lady Oilers Tennis team dominated the scoring Sept. 24, during the Central Plains Quad tennis tournament in Claflin, with Number One singles player Emily Ryan going undefeated. Central Plains took first with 24 points.

Bearcats slip by Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — In the final league game of the season, the Ellsworth Bearcats beat the Minneapolis Lions, 21-12. The ‘Cats were eager to win so that they could go into districts with a lot of momentum. Ellsworth’s district includes Hoisington, Phillipsburg, Norton, and Thomas More Prep-Marian.

Oilers tan the Coyotes

KINSLEY — The Central Plains High School Oilers football team redeemed themselves Friday with a much needed 56-6 victory on the road against the Kinsley Coyotes. Offensively, the Oilers were 5 for 12 in the passing department for a total of 58 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Lady ‘Cats varsity goes 7-7 on the volleyball court

The Ellsworth Lady Bearcats varsity volleyball team fell to 7-7 overall for the season Sept. 19, after being defeated in action at Little River. Little River beat Ellsworth in all three matches, 23-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
