‘Cats stun Buffs with win
After their opening season win against the Russell Broncos, the Ellsworth Bearcats improved to 2-0 with a 27-20 win Friday against Republic County at Belleville.
Ryan continues winning ways
Central Plains’ Emily Ryan had a good week on the tennis courts as she landed first-place wins in No. 1 singles at Hesston, Lindsborg and Hoisington.

‘Cat runners increase the pace at Hesston
Ellsworth runners finished in the top half of their fields Sept. 7 at the Swather Special at the Hesston Golf Course. Ellsworth’s Hayden Rogers matched his 2018 best finishing place of 6th to medal in the senior boys race.
Oilers lose last minute game at Ness City
NESS CITY — The season opener for the Central Plains High School Oilers football team ended in a last minute 30-36 defeat Friday to the Ness City Eagles.

The Ellsworth High School Lady ‘Cats are off to a good start after their two wins Tuesday, Sept. 3, over Republic County. The Lady Bearcats started the night off with wins, 25-8, 26-24.
Ellsworth Invitational
The Central Plains Lady Oilers took two firstplace spots Sept. 3 in the Ellsworth High School Invitational Tennis Tournament.
Emily Ryan, who has taken second place at State for the past two years, was first in singles.
Wilson buries Southern Cloud in season opener
Wilson kicked off its 2019 football season Friday night with a dramatic win over Southern Cloud at Miltonvale.
The final score was 50-0 — which included seven touchdowns for Wilson and 361 rushing yards, compared to 75 for Southern Cloud.
Bearcats bash Broncos in season opener
Starting the season off on a high note, the Ellsworth Bearcats defeated the Russell Broncos 44-22 Friday night.
The ‘Cats were the first to score, with a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Morgan Kelley. With 3:41 left in the first quarter, Ellsworth led Russell, 6-0.
‘Cats join first football Jamboree at Concordia
The Ellsworth football team traveled to Concordia Saturday for what is expected to be an annual event — a Jamboree that also attracted teams from Beloit, Concordia and Chapman.
