Russell/Ellsworth County Emergency Management and 911 Communications Advisory Board are once again requesting nominations for the Volunteer/Emergency Worker of the year in Russell County.
Wilson girls won the second game of their Northern Plains League tournament at Tescott Jan. 23 against the Natoma Tigers. Their first and third games ended differently.
The Lady Dragons took on Natoma with a 28-8 final.
Ellsworth wrestlers placed 17th out of 27 teams this past weekend during the Bob Kuhn Classic Invitation Tournament at Hays High School. The boys had a total of eight wins in their 17 matches Friday and Saturday.
The Wilson Dragons varsity team lost Jan. 21 NPL tournament game against the Rock Hills Grizzlies of Mankato in Tescott by a 59-35 score.
The boys of Wilson struggled to make it to the top with a total of 24 turnovers and only making 2 of their 6 free throw attempts.
Ellsworth competes at Hoisington tournament
The Bearcat boys took on Hoisington Friday, Jan. 24, during the Winter Jam tournament with a disappointing outcome of 24-55 as the final score.
Braden Schulte, Hayden Rogers, and Avery Haxton put the ‘Cats on the board with 6 points in the first quarter.

Ellsworth’s Lady ‘Cats slipped by Hoisington Jan. 25 at the Winter Jam tournament hosted by Hoisington with a point to spare. The final score was 46-45.
Jaide Talbott, Natalie Rolfs, and Lakyn Tenbrink started the first quarter with 6 points.
In Tuesday’s lowscoring game in Claflin a pair of possessions became all the more important. The Oilers gave up a steal Jan. 14 in the waning seconds of the first half, and Sterling went on a late run to run away with a 36-22 win.
The Lady Dragons faced the Pike Valley Panthers Monday night at the Northern Plains League Basketball Tournament at Lincoln.
And even though the contest ended with Pike Valley winning 34 to 26, the Lady Dragons kept on fighting.
The Lady Oilers welcomed in a Sterling team Tuesday, Jan. 14, with wins against Haven and No. 3 Cheney (3A). The result was more of the same: Central Plains bumped its win streak to 119 games in a 54-26 rout.
“I saw them on tape,” Central Plains coach Pat Stiles said of Sterling.
