CLAFLIN — By a vote of 4 to 3, the Central Plains USD 112 board of education voted Monday to maintain the district’s face mask mandate.

Visitors express property right concerns to officials

Four patrons voiced concerns to Ellsworth County commissioners Monday regarding property rights after attending an informational meeting Sunday at Vesper. Leeroy Charvat, Jody Britt, Melinda Boeken and Joan Rolfs said at least 300 people attended the meeting, including Commissioner Steve Dlabal.

The Ellsworth County commissioners received an update from Carl Miller, county appraiser, at Monday’s weekly meeting. Miller said he has mailed out property valuation notices and has had 23 informal hearings with property owners. “They all went really well,” he said.

Donor offers CNA opportunity for 10

Those seeking a credential as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) have the chance to enroll in a course at no charge thanks to a generous anonymous donor and a collaboration between Barton Community College, Ellsworth County Medical Center (ECMC) and Good Samaritan Retirement Center.

Cancer Fund seeks Triathalon teams

The Ellsworth County Cancer Fund annual Triathalon will be from 6 p.m. Friday, June 11, until 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Shanelec Football Stadium in Ellsworth. Proceeds from the triathalon will be used to help cancer patients in Ellsworth County.

Attorney general continues open records review

The validity of a formal complaint accusing Ellsworth city officials of violating the Kansas Open Records Act is still being examined by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, officials confirmed late last week.
