Wilson sewer rates to increase

WILSON — Sewer rates are going up in Wilson. At the Sept. 16 meeting of the Wilson City Council, Ordinance 852 was approved, raising the rates effective with the Nov. 10 billing.

Luray Craftique benefits food pantry

The 4th annual Luray Craftique, to benefit the Luray Food Pantry will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Luray. This is a non-profit fair, where the only entrance fee for shoppers is a nonperishable food item, or in lieu of a food item, monetary donations will also be accepted.

Raising suicide awareness

Boise, Idaho native Jeremy Miller is making his way across America to raise awareness of veteran suicides. Miller, 30, is no stranger to the trauma of a war zone. Miller joined the Army Reserves in 2006 and then in 2011 he served a tour in Iraq.

Continuing the baking tradition

In at least one way, Mugs Kepka’s career has come full circle. As a teen-ager, the Black Wolf native worked on Ellsworth’s 1st Street at Bircher’s Dairy, first helping to deliver milk and then as a car hop at the drive-in.

Democratic candidates to visit Sept. 26

U.S. Senate candidate Nancy Boyda and First Congressional District Candidate Kali Barnett will be the featured speakers Thursday, Sept. 26, at the first ever “Fall Forum” hosted by Ellsworth County Democrats. Other candidates also have been invited to attend.

City to receive airport funding

Ellsworth received a $900,000 gift toward its future this past week from the Federal Aviation Administration. Supporters of a longer runway at Ellsworth Municipal Airport were notified Thursday, Sept.

County doesn’t object to ecodevo change

Ellsworth County commissioners voiced no objection Monday to a name change being considered by the Smoky Hill Development Corporation. Stacie Schmidt, Smoky Hill executive director, said the current name doesn’t say what the SHDC does.
