Wilson removes breed-specific verbiage from ‘pit bull’ ordinance

By Alan RuschEllsworth County I-RWILSON — At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, approval was given to a motion to remove the breed-specific verbiage dealing with pit bull/pit bull mix breeds from Ordinance 782 and make a new ordinance that pertains to vicious dogs only.

WJSHS students attend new schools

CLAFLIN — School has been in session a few weeks now and what that looks like to some is different while to others it’s the same. With the closure of Wilson Jr./Sr. High School, the 73 students who attended found new schools.

Florian added as deputy coroner

The need for more coroners in Ellsworth County was a main topic of discussion at Monday’s county commission meeting.EMS Director Nathan Florian said there are several deputy coroners — Dr. Jerzy Slomoka, Dr. Ronald Whitmer and Dr. Easton Casey. Shawn McGowan serves as a special deputy coroner.

Drowning victim recovered from Wilson Lake

During the morning of Sept. 5, divers recovered the body of Andrew M. Jauch, 52, Colorado, at Wilson Lake.According to the Russell County Sheriff Fred J. Whitman, through investigation it was learned that the boat Jauch was riding in had broken down and that he had jumped into the water to cool off.

Loveland joins Wilson city council

WILSON — Yet another new face is now on the Wilson City Council.At the Sept. 5 council meeting, Jessica Loveland was approved by the council after being appointed by Mayor Dan Taylor.

USD 327 approves $14.6 million budget

The Ellsworth Kanopolis Geneseo USD 327 Board of Education approved a $14.6 million budget for the 2023-24 school year.The district approved a mill levy rate of 51.251, which is less than 1 mill increase from the 2022-23 budget.

Budget approved by USD 112 BOE

CLAFLIN — The USD 112 Board of Education approved the 2023-24 budget during a hearing held prior to the regular meeting on Monday evening.“After redoing the budget, we reduced it 2.167 mills,” Interim Superintendent Bill Lowry said. “So, I’m recommending we do not exceed revenue neutral.
