The competitive events at the 2019 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson proved to be successful for Ellsworth County residents Wilma Olds of Wilson, Kirk Robson of Ellsworth, and Dave Svaty and Anna Hand, both of Kanopolis.

Six Wilson properties in violation

WILSON — Six properties in Wilson have been identified by the city’s board of health to be in violation of city ordinances. That was the news Wilson Police Chief Josh Tipton delivered Monday to the Wilson City Council.

It’s time to enroll in 4-H

4-H Focus Midway District had a strong presence in the state fair with 113 entries. Of those entries, one item was selected for display at Rock Springs, five received the Kansas 4-H Foundation Award, one Junior Champion, and two Reserve Junior Champions.

Advance voting for the Nov. 5 general election for city and school district candidates opened Oct. 16 at the office of Ellsworth County Clerk and Election Officer Shelly Vopat. Advance voting closes at noon Nov. 4 with the election set for the next day.

Grain prices mixed for the week Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, Oct. 21, were: Wheat, bu. — $3.84, unchanged from Oct. 14. Milo, bu. — $3.22, down 10 cents. Soybeans, bu. — $8.12, down 8 cents. Corn, bu. — $3.57, down 10 cents.

Hyman promoted to KHP captain

Ellsworth’s Lt. Bruce Hyman of the Kansas Highway Patrol has been promoted to captain and will now oversee Troop C. Hyman joined the Patrol in June 1987 and was assigned to field duties in Ellsworth.
