Family Reunion

Bealby Family The 91st reunion of the descendants of James and Ann (Brown) Bealby was held Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the Senior Center in Brookville, Kan. James and Ann emigrated from England circa 1883 and settled near Brookville in Ellsworth County.

Ellsworth is part of rural bike-share effort in region

When Claire Mullen has a bad day, she jokes about taking a bike ride. There’s just something about pedaling around on a cruiserstyle bicycle that seems to make her day a little better. Maybe it has something to do with the bell.

Lorraine sets budget hearing

LORRAINE — At the July 16 meeting of the Lorraine City Council, approval was given to have a public hearing on the 2020 city budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at city hall. According to city clerk Michael Boyer, approval was also given to two related matters.

Annual Fly In is Saturday, Aug. 3

Smoky Hill EAA Chapter 1127 will host its 28th Annual Cow Town Fly In Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Ellsworth Municipal Airport. The event starts with a free fly-in pancake breakfast for all pilots and passengers at 7 am.

50 YEARS AND COUNTING

The Ellsworth class of 1969 gathered to celebrate 50 years by celebrating two nights, Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.

Marquette to celebrate 145th

Marquette will recognize its 145th anniversary with a big celebration. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. July 27 with a pre-celebration in the city park with a freewill supper, the anniversary queen being crowned and a talent show. The celebration continues at 8 a.m. Aug. 3 with the annual Rodeo Run.

Budget talks continues

Work briefly continued on the 2020 budget Monday during the weekly meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners. Sheriff Murray Marston stopped in to see how much the sheriff ’s office would receive. Commissioner Kermit Rush said Marston can expect an extra $50,000.
