Salina Youth Symphony to present spring concert

The talent of more than 150 young area musicians will be on display at the Salina Youth Symphony Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Stiefel Theatre. The concert will feature members of the Salina Youth Symphony, Junior Youth Symphony and Preparatory Orchestra.

Child care center update meeting planned

Directors of the Ellsworth Childcare & Learning Center plan a meeting Friday, April 12, to update the community on the center. The session follows a Dec. 5 meeting in which directors outlined the financial challenges faced by the center.

WILSON — Jonathan Lawrence, the part-time officer for the Wilson Police Department, was approved by the Wilson City Council Monday to be the town’s new police chief. The action came after a 10-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

Livestock workshops planned

Livestock owners face numerous challenges, including natural disasters like flooding and wildfire and the threat of foreign animal diseases like African Swine Fever and food-and-mouth disease, which have impacted other countries.

Hansen representative to speak at annual Smoky Hill meeting

The Smoky Hill Development Corporation plans its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the basement of Ellsworth’s J.H. Robbins Memorial Library. Speaker will be Betsy Wearing of the Logan-based Dane G. Hansen Foundation. On the agenda will be a nacho buffet at 6:30 p.m.

County plans delinquent property tax sale

Ellsworth County commissioners approved a resolution Monday earmarking funds for a planned delinquent property tax sale later this year. The resolution authorizes payment of expenses for the tax foreclosure sale to be taken out of the county’s general fund. County attorney Paul J.
