Bearcat track team brings home gold

GYPSUM — The Bearcat track and field team took on their toughest meet yet April 14 at the Smoky Valley Invitational held at Southeast of Saline.“The Smoky Valley meet is one of the best meets in the area,” Head Coach Nick Rodriguez said.

Bearcat softball bests Lions, Eagles

Ellsworth beat the Minneapolis Lions 3-2 on the softball field April 14.The Cats engaged in a battle as they had to fight until the final inning, making sure to have clean defense and working to take control in the batter’s box. The team was able to get on base and move each other around to score.

Ellsworth golf focuses on team growth

The Bearcat golf team competed at the Minneapolis meet April 11. The team continues to show improvement not only as individuals, but as a team as a whole.Junior Sam Karst shot a score of 122 to put him in 16th place. Tying for 18th place, junior Avery Holecek and sophomore Billy Duncan shot 128.

Bearcat baseball gets easy win in bad weatherMINNEAPOLIS — On April 14, the Ellsworth Bearcat baseball team traveled to Minneapolis, but due to inclement weather, the Cats were only able to play one game.With a score of 15-1, the Bearcats easily won game one.

In their season-opening game March 28, the Bearcat softball team came away with two wins at home against the Ellis Railers, 9-8 and 18-8.As eager as they were to kick off the season, the Cats didn’t start as strong as they hoped.

In their season-opening week, the Bearcat baseball team logged a 3-1 start to the season.On March 31, the Cats scored 6 runs in the third inning on their way to an 11-1 victory over the Beloit Trojans.

Track team opens season today at Russell

Today, about 35 high schoolers will run, jump and throw at their first track and field meet of the year at Russell.“We have a few more athletes on the team,” Head Coach Nick Rodriguez said, “which builds a bit more depth on the squad.

Holechek new coach

The Ellsworth golf team is looking forward to a promising season full of individual and self-improvement.After last season’s Head Coach Kevin Haxton resigned from teaching in December, the spot was filled by Darin Holecek, Ellsworth, who is hopeful for what the season will bring.
